Family, friends, and members of the Macon community are mourning the loss of Joshua Epps, 35, who died following a deputy-involved shooting on Saturday evening, June 6, 2026, on Bloomfield Road in Macon, Georgia. According to the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a residence in the 5800 block of Bloomfield Road at approximately 8:43 p.m. after receiving a 911 call reporting that an individual had been injured during a disturbance. Upon arrival, deputies located a 51-year-old man who had reportedly sustained injuries after being attacked with scissors.
Investigators stated that deputies subsequently encountered Epps, who was allegedly still armed. Authorities report that despite repeated commands to drop the weapon, Epps advanced toward a deputy. During the encounter, a deputy discharged their firearm, striking Epps. He was transported to a local hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The injured 51-year-old man received treatment at the scene for injuries described as non-life-threatening. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident.
